I finally got started on trying to figure out how to get this Tremec 5 speed tranny in my T. I've had it since last April w/the intentions of having it in for the Chattanooga Nats. Then I got the cute idea to polish the Tremec (already posted a few pics after I finished a couple of months ago) & that ate my lunch time wise. Finally started after the pups & me got back from Weelstang's Artesia run. I talked to Deckofficer & he told me that when he put his Tremec 5 speed in it was not an easy task and, if I remember correctly, he already had a dropout crossmember. My crossmember is welded in. Thought I'd try & post some pics of what I've done so far.
This 1st pic shows the original cut on the passenger side.
This 2nd pic is after I cut the drop out loose from the sides & K-member installed when I put the Jag in.
This 3rd pic is the drop out after it was cut out. There are only 2 rear motor mount holes which was all the original Borg-Warner required. The back legs will have to be shortened & both sides will have to be narrowed.
I will be building 2 U shaped boxes w/this dropout being welded to the inside U. The outside U will be welded to the crossmember sides & K-member on the T-bucket frame. The inside U will capture the dropout & will be a welded together for the dropout section. I cut 3 pair of flanges to make each U. I got a 6' piece of 1/4" X 2" cold roll to make the flanges (for lack of better word) & then spot welded each identical pair together for drilling/threading for 7/16 X 14 bolts.
This 4th pic is the back plates that will be welded to the K-member. Only the back plate will be welded to the K-member although I will have the inside plate bolted to the back plate to keep to avoid a warp. I drilled & tapped a 5/16" hole at top C/L to keep the plates solid against the K-member. I'll break the spot welds before the back side weld starts.
This 5th pic is showing a mock up of how it will be put together. I still had some additional changes & reshape work to do at this point, but I had all the holes drilled & threaded since I will also keep the inside flanges bolted to the outside flanges when I weld the outside to the frame & K-member to avoid a warp anywhere.
This 6th pic is a side shot.
Well, I guess you can't post more than 5 pics. I have three more pics but cannot get the 6th, 7th or 8th to register. Also, I haven't been able to figure out how to post in sequence so these pics & the descriptions may not match.

Boy John, you are one dedicated dude! Here I'm stressing over moving my tranny mount back 2-3/4" for my "new" 700R4. Looks to me like yer doing a great job as always. Those pics should help other folks with the same idea. I have room for a clutch, but overdrive is about all I'm doing different.
Keep up the good work!

Re: Dropout Crossmember For My Tremec 5 Speed Part 2
OK, let me see if I can post these last 3 pics as Mike suggested.
This should be pic #6 which is a side shot of the previous last pic. I welded alloy lock nuts on each outside flange which register inside the L. & R. original crossmember stubs. This is Pic #7. I used my Harbor Freight belt tensioner to press the side flanges against the crossmember stubs at about a 5o angle. The small C-clamps hole the drop out piece at the original angle that it was at when originally part of the K-member. This is the last pic #8. I'll probably have some more later this week since I've got everything to the point of tacking &
