Can't get anymore non-T than this.

Post by Bob Lemke »

As some of you know, I like to cruise in conveyances other than land based like the T. I think my signature gives it away. The latest method of cruising that I can do for 2 hours or 2 weeks, is kayak cruising with an electric twist, pun intended. The lithium batteries I have ordered should give me a "no paddle assist" range of 75~100 miles on a single charge. I will be adding solar panels for unlimited range.

Didn't get the new kayak in the water till 4:00 PM, because didn't leave the dealer's business till 3:15 PM. No sweat, a couple hours till dark and I'm only running (2) small AGM batteries, one pulled from the T, and the 17 year old one from the T and now in the garden tractor. Video coming later.

The 2 AGM batteries. Use the 17 year old one upriver so that I would have plenty of reserve to get back.

Here is a video that is rated "G" as to speed, don't you think?

NEEEET Bob!! If I had something like that, I'd have more tools along that a crescent wrench and a mutli-meter.

Ceec, I had an allen wrench too, no other tools needed. Top speed is 5.5 mph but I think my power consumption is around 60 w/hr per mile at that speed. Slowing to 4.25 mph drops it below 40 w/hr per mile. Those two AGM Odyssey batteries are only 15 a/hr so is 180 w/hr. Each 15 lb battery would propel at full speed just 3 miles, so both 6 miles. I did about 7 that day but most was at 2/3 throttle. Each lithium battery that I'm assembling from 3.2 volt 100 a/hr single cells will produce 1280 w/hr, for the two 2560 w/hr. Range should run 40 miles at full speed and 65 miles at 2/3 setting. Believe me 15 hours of running would be more of a test of me than the battery.

This is down rated from my calculations prior to taking it out, and since one of those batteries was 17 years old and I don't know how much was left in the 6 month old battery, the 75 to 100 mile range still might be attainable. I bought an electronic "fuel" gauge that has some great number crunching that can be programmed for lithium.
