Haven't worked on the bucket since April of this year...actually lost interest in it. Might consider selling it come Spring after I get it painted. So the following is what we have been working on for a month or so now. VroomKrazy and OldredT have been assisting me. Hoping to have it finished by this weekend so that I can begin filling it with wood. The end closest to the left with the solid wood floor is where the splitter and chainsaws will reside. Still have to put solid siding on along with doors and ramp. Building is 28' long x 8' deep x 10/12' high.

wow.. how much wood do u burn in a winter ???? are those heaters forced air or heating water for heat ???
i use maybe a cord n 1/2 ea winter..

As far as how many cord of wood that I use...I'm still in the learning phase. This will be my second year at heating the home and DHW with the OWF. Last year I fired this thing up October 28th and burned the Oak I have stacked along side my shop. Now the stacked wood was 36' long x 3.5' high x 12' wide. I went through ALL this wood by December 3rd! Reason for the excessive burn is two-fold: 1) wood was too old...prime burn time in years for Oak is about 3 years...anything older is mainly kindling. This wood was over five years old; 2) my furnace (house) was not valved to utilize the t-Stat as it is meant to be ...as used in the "fan on" position or in the "auto" position. My fan was ALWAYS on thus it was a constant 74* in the house, thus the other reason for going through so much wood. The latter issue will be rectified tomorrow afternoon.

The unit is surrounded by a 250 gallon water jacket. So the wood heats the water and the water is moved to the house via a pump and underground pex lines. Temperature in lines is at 180* and of course the lines are buried no more than 2' under ground and they will lose "maybe" 5* . I can tell you, it's nice to have endless hot water for showers. It will be nice to be able to heat the house using the "auto" feature on the t-stat as well.

This shed only holds 8 cord of wood, but I will be adding on next spring behind this shed for another maybe 16 cord of wood. See attached photos. The other photo is of all the wood I have cut and split...ready for stacking. I still have two huge Oak trees along side my shop hut and seven Cottonwoods to cut and split. I was only using this little saw to cut off small limbs. I went out that day and bought a 460 Huskie with a 24" bar which has an option of a 27" bar.

Thinking I may go through 10-12 cord of wood this season...I'll keep you posted. by the way, posting photos on here IS way easier than the old board...but still I DO miss the old site.

man... 10 plus cords... round here they get $180/cord. OH and if u look close to the bottom pic, i can see a smile on the tree... its thinking : u gonna cut me with that toy saw ????? i guess since i burn maybe one n 1/2 cords thats starter kilning for u...

OldredT's father in law cuts wood for a living so I was getting a cut rate deal on wood. This week I will begin putting wood in the shed. Temps are nice now...in the mid 50s during the day/upper 30s at night. But this weekend, the temps begin to drop. So loading up the shed now with all that I can because I have two trailers that need a place to park plus, i need the room for the large Oaks when I get them cut up and split.

I suppose you only have a wood burning fireplace if all you use is 1/2 cord? I bought 4 cord last December and it cost me $160 per cord and it consisted of all hard wood...Maple, White/red Oak/Hickory.

Do you have any Iron Wood up in your area? We have it all over here and try cutting it with a chainsaw.....sparks come aflyin'.....supposed to burn really good and make lots of heat.

Is iron wood another name for Osage Orange / hedgeapple? If so after it dries it is one of the hotest burners there is. I used burn a lot of it.

Big Bill....I have no idea. Al I know is I have a fair share of them in the woods around my house; The chainsaw does NOT like to cut into them. Looking forward to burning the ones I cut down this year and ready to burn next season.

Been using the OWF now for about one week now. Temps last week were in the 50s/low 60s but had to burn so I could get the heating company over here to install a valve on existing house furnace so that I can use the t-stat on "auto" setting versus just "fan on". Temps last night went from mid 50s to high of 23 at 0500 this morning. Winter is here.....at least for a few days. So nice to go out in the blustery cold weather and throw in a small stack of Maple and Oak. Will be going out in a while to load up one more time; then up at 0600 to toss more in for the rest of the day.

Moving right along....hope to get some of the roofing up tomorrow. Had our first snow of the season Friday night into Saturday morning. Bah humbug.
