Just happens to be the Tesla S, built at the former Toyota Fremont, California plant. 1st time in MT's 64 years, award given to an electric. Tesla's founder Elon Musk is the same person NASA is using to replace the Space Shuttle.

At least take a test drive. The technology is solid and Elon Musk, Tesla's founder is the same guy who founded Space X, which has in the private sector replaced the Space Shuttle with already making cargo deliveries to the International Space Station and soon personnel.


CG is lower than a 2006 $175K Ford GT mid engine. The batteries are below spindle height.

Why won't they work in your area? If you think the cold is an issue, those battery containers are full HVAC, so this car will tolerate the cold better than ICE will.

57 grand for a car that is worthless in the ice and snow. Plus batteries only work at 50% when cold. Wonder why I do not want one.
PS: does it come in 4 wheel drive????

Model X has all wheel drive. Like I said, the battery pack is enjoying a temperature controlled climate, so no issues with SD winters.

SD is in the tropics compared to here. What heats the battery? Have you ever tried to heat something at -20? Takes allot more energy than you think. Plus all of our eletricity is from coal. How much more green can I be.

Pretty cool car Bob, I appreciate the low center of gravity, it probably sticks like glue.
I too don't like electrics too much, but as a retired FF don't like the additional hazards that it brings to the scene when these cars are involved in collisions.

Gasoline tanks aren't near as protected in a crash as this battery module. For temperature control it uses a vacuum barrier like a Thermos bottle and thus might need 50 watts of heat cycling on and off in -30* weather. On a 84 kw-hr battery, 50 watts is nothing.
