Ode To Bambi March/26/1999

FP,
I finally got it retyped. As you might guess, I'm pretty slow. You will be able to tell from the Ode that I had just gotten on the BBS & saw that some guys had given Bambi a hard time before my entry to the scene. I've never found out exactly what was going on but, I couldn't understand why the negative things had been done/said, especially after reading the good comments in her posts. I know she is pretty direct in her wording sometimes-maybe that's what bothers some people, but, what the hey, she's just holdin' class as far as I'm concerned.

I haven't tried to find her, although she emails me once and a while. I've often wondered if she might be a guy just playing along like he is a girl. I've also wondered about her age, I don't see how she could be in her 20's or 30's. She gives answers that go way back in history sometimes. She might have a photographic memory and has read all the old books.

But, I finally quit worrying about it. Now, I just wait to see her posts and enjoy reading them, I'm glad she is back on the board.

Ode To Bambi

I'm new to this site that I accidentally found,
So I've been sort of tip toeing around.
Trying to find out what it's all about,
Realizing now, that it concerns T-Buckets, and man that's stout!

When I discovered this message board just a few days ago,
And began to read some postings, I was set aglow.
While thinking, "A place for t-Buckets, that's right down my alley!
The rodding spirits within me began to rally!…………..
For, when in my T, I'm usually in the minority,
But, on this message board, one is in the majority!
I have to tell you it feels real great,
To see T's elevated to their true level of 1st Rate.
On each message was a special name to see,
Like Swamp Rat and Nitro and Dr. D.
With Spanky, Lugnut and WannaT,
Me thought how special these folks must be.
All seemed to be united in their love for T's,
This made me read more, with total ease.
More names were entered on a daily basis,
With very good comments concerning all cases.
Each of the entries I read were really handy,
Then I saw a posting entitled "A Message from Bambi."
That title was different, so I decided to read,
Never realizing that it would be the start of a need,
For communicating some thoughts, by the use of an ode,
That were more positive than the negative ones that were not forebode.
I'm posting this Ode, in said special place,
Although the events discussed have previously taken place.
It's not my intention to detail what's been done,
Concerning those past comments directed at an apparent special one.
The NSRA started a new category in recent times past,
The title of that category was the "Under 21 Class."
I think it WAS NOT created to make more money, nor to be funny,
It was for the life of the hobby (or whatever you want to call it),
Cause NSRA ain't a bunch of dummies!
They figured out such a long time ago,
That an influx of youth was essential to keep up the flow,
Of new people that are filled to the brim with that certain glow,
Being the LOVE of these old cars, which all Bucketheads would know!
The NSRA published pictures of these kids and their cars,
Now we could all see our future "old car stars!"
As I read the "Under 21 Section" one day, I was knocked off my feet,
The pictures posted included some girls, which was to me, beyond 'NEAT'!
This should be a Red Flag for any misguided one,
Who would, at people of any age or gender, poke fun,
Aimed at those having enough moxey, to cast their proxy,
Toward the pursuit of all possible knowledge, in this 'Old Car College'!
It's so great to have kids involved, giving wrenches lots of tugs,
Instead of being down dark alleys, doing some drugs.
Even more special than kids, is the fact that any girl,
Would agree to give this 'Old car thing' a good honest whirl.
So, Bambi, here's to those who did promptly spew,
All the negative comments that were directed at you.
Obviously, launched completely to your detriment,
These people must have been birthed through an aggressive 4-H experiment!
For most of us guys are not like them,
Cause that type of behavior is strictly sin.
The guys posting here seem to have a great respect,
For you and your contributions without neglect.
I wonder why that's true, let's just see,
What the true foundation for this respect might be
The answer must be on the BBS in plain view.
I'm sure the information there will provide a clue.
Bambi's owned a 64 Impala SS with a real good mill,
And a Dodge 440 Mag, to drive that must have been a thrill.
A 512 Charger could change you life in a moment of time,
If you had the guts to push it to the "red-line"!
How much more American can one be, than to own a Harley,
As opposed to one of those other brands that run on rice or barley.
I've got news guys, more ladies are starting to ride,
They know that there's no reason for them to hide!
What about doing 9's in the quarter, any of ya done that?
My brother did a 12.88, backin' off lest his T go splat!
I want to take my T thru the quarter, don't think I can get a nine,
But, given the chance you can bet, I'll be "puckered up"
From my bottom thru my mind!!
Now, I'll mention welding, who can make the cut?
Would all of you Certified welders please stand up?
How many people know about the dues that must be paid,
To have that title, next to your name be laid?
A kid in my welding class once summed it up,
To understand what he said was not very tough,
As he exclaimed in this sentence, with the greatest of ease,
"I figured out that to be a welder, it takes a hell of a lot of EXPERTISE!"
What's the count today, for those qualified to run a lathe?
OK, then maybe a mill, or are my questions making you cave?
Sometimes you need these capabilities to complete a car,
Or help from someone qualified, lest completion day remain off afar.
Bambi's made other posting concerning tilt wheels, headlights, tail light and springs,
Do any of these bells re-sound with familiar rings?
What about clevis rods and rod ends without jam nuts?
That could really put you rod in the ruts!
And she spoke of products and the places you shop,
Trying to decide on Grainger or Harbor Freight or Northern till you drop.
Plus a little shot about a Quadrajet,
Are any of your memories starting to come back yet?
How about it guys, search through what she has said,
There are no bogus words in all that I've read.
That says to me that she knows what of she speaks,
With her thanks being trouble due to email leaks.
Bambi, maybe those buys that caused you trouble,
Had their pride burst like a pin thrust into a bubble.
But, your pin was really a pen for doing your posting,
And with your comments so accurate, maybe they couldn't take the roasting!
Now, I'm no genius, as you can plainly see,
Seems like half the time, I live in a tree.
But, I've worked like crazy to be prejudice free,
So that in the pursuit of knowledge, gender doesn't matter to me.
Bambi, these talents have been given you by someone above,
Who has for you (and all of us) a very great love.
Stick with his plan and you'll continue to grow,
The things you will accomplish, only the Good Lord knows.
So, I'll wind this up with these thoughts having clout,
For those who insist on throwing bad tidings about.
It's better to appear a fool, with a tight closed mouth,
Rather than utter some words that remove all doubt!
