Brake lines . . .

I can buy brake lines with the ends already installed (flared) in different lengths. What I like is, I don't trust my aptitude for making leak-free flares! Is this a good idea? Any negatives?

I used Stainless line from Speedway, Used AN fittings. Borrowed a 37 degree flaring tool form an airplane mechanic friend of mine, worked great! Made lengths that I needed not what was available in pre-made.

I bent and flared all of mine. The verdict is still out until I fill up the master cylinder and bleed the brakes. I will let you know how it turns out. It does look really good.

Brake lines should be Double flared, it isn't all that hard, just practice on some scrap tubing. Double flares need a tool made for double flares, but they are not too expensive. I have never tried pre-made lines, but you do have to give detailed instructions on the bends to make and exact measurements. The AN fitting way can get expensive, good AN fittings are not cheap, and you also need the 37 degree flaring tool. Guess it is just a matter of choice. I did Double Flares on all Brake Lines and bent my own tubing. If you do your own bents, get a good hand tubing bender, that will make life simpler.

bill, i doubt u will get lines exactly the correct length u need. u'll need to flare something at one point. i have a double flare kit and tried,tried,tried and could not get it right.. mine were cut to fit and single flare (i can do that one) and never had a problem.. your not trying to stop a 3 ton truck.

Spanky, Cuz has a double flaring tool and tubing benders. Old Dogs has tubing that you can bend very easily without a bender.
