Trailer Question(s)

Post by rbsWELDER »

Whenever I see a parked trailer the the trailer jack is on a block of wood. What is the purpose for the block of wood?

The two main reasons I do it. 1. The wood adds some height and I don't have to run the jack down as much. 2. The main reason is to add more surface area for the trailer hitch weight. It helps in hot parking lots and dirt to prevent sinking in.

Certainly agree w/ Orville's 2 reasons and I'd like to add a 3rd. Block of wood allows raising the front of the trailer higher with the jack which reduces the angle between rear trailer floor and opened rear door when loading/unloading bucket to prevent oil and/or transmission pan interference.

I do it for all three of the above reasons.
