Welding question - extending frame

I always said if I tore the t apart, I would extend the frame. I have no room for a supercharger for instance, and barely 1/4" between the motor and fan. I would add maybe 6" right ahead of the motor mounts. I figure I can fit something inside and plug weld. Then do I need to use fishplates or are plug welds enough? Thanks for any ideas. Don't mind me, I'm thinkin ahead (always dangerous...).

hi frank, i don't think u'd find sq tubing to fit snugly into the frame. u'll need to make up a rectangle to slide into frame. drilling say 4 holes through the frame and sliding in the extender and welding up including the plug holes should hold up fine.. or sliding in 2 plate and welding them and then cover with more metal... but wondering how much room u have in front of rad..??? maybe just move rad forward and doing the same with engine... thats what i did and have about 5" from dizzy and firewall...

Yeah Bill, not gonna find tubing that would fit right inside, but maybe make some up? Seems years ago somebody on the old BBS did that, and it came out good, i.e., you'd ever now it was done. My radiator is as far ahead as it can be, everything fits, but just barely because of the 8" stretched body. Not worried about dizzy to firewall, okay there. I'll get some pics this weekend and post them, you'll see what I mean.

Found a local rod shop not too far away that will do the 6" in front of the motor mounts for 250. I gotta get to work!
