Harmonic Balancer

Three years ago I put a 383 Stroker in the bucket and had one Hell of a time getting it to run correctly! It took this long but I finally hit the bull's eye-------a faulty harmonic balancer!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a pain in the butt this has been!
When the engine was tuned "by ear and by vacuum gage" the timing light showed 57 degrees advance-----not good! A local builder advised me, as did several other people (some on this board) that I should look at the balancer; well, I finally took everyones advice and replaced the Professional Products balancer with a Pioneer---hang on to yer hat Jack--what a difference! The timing dialed in at 13 degrees initial and all is good.

By just looking at the "OLD" balancer (bought brand new) you can not see ANYTHING different, the markings are correct, TDC is where TDC should be when number one piston is at the top of its compression stroke, the keyway is cut at about 11 degrees with respect to the degree markings etc. BUT it sure did not work correctly!

Does anybody have an explanation for this situation ????

amazing.. really glad u got that head pain gone.. my guess was #2 intake valve was out of adj..
well just maybe some of the SLOWER delaware people are smarter then in the north..
but it could just be lucky too...
bottom line i'm still prettier then Al...
