Brake lights

Post by fiesta »

I wired my t-bucket and everything works except when the headlights are on the brake light will not come on. The brakes come on with the headlights off but not when their on. Anyone have an idea why?

Did you wire it yourself, or use one of the wiring kits? Do the brake lights work with the 'running lights' (parking lights) on?

Sounds like you have a weak ground at the tail lights themselves. Easy test, run a wire from the battery negative post back to the taillight, step on brake pedal (or have a helper with that,) and if it works, just make sure the tailights are mounted Securely to a Good Grounded surface. Hope this helps! :D :D :D

I have run extra grounds to the tail lights and still get the same results brake lights only come on when the headlights and running lights are off. That's alright during the day but not good at night and besides it probably will not pass inspection by the state of Michigan to get a title.

The tail lights need to be wired in series with the brake light switch; have you checked to see if those connections are good and tight? :?:

They make what I call a spliter that you wire the tail lights and turn signal and brake lights thru and that splits the light depending what is on, these are sometimes used for comb lights. I have one on the Bucket and I bought it Walmart. ...I don't know if that will help you or not......

Can you give us a quick schematic of your lighting circuits?

What tail lights are you using?
Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get a handle on it.
