Vehicle registration

I got my car titled here in Michigan but the bad part is its registered as a 2016 roadster. They said since it was a assembled vehicle it had to be registered as the year it was built. Do other states do the same thing, what if you sell it to someone in another state do they have to pass the strict standards like for safety and smog. I was wandering has anyone else run into this problem.

Same in N.C titled as a Custom Vehicle but are exempt from most Smog equipment [must have PCV valve] but still have annual inspections. It will pass if you follow the NSRA rules for safety.

Assembled vehicle in Kansas as well. One-time inspection. Only basic safety requirements... pretty much up to the individual inspector. No smog requirements.

My 26 was originally built in Michigan, in 1963. It carries the VIN # MICHxxxx1963. No way around it in Michigan. BUT, when I titled it in Idaho, it is now titled as a 1926 Ford T-Bucket with the original the original Michigan Vin#. Good luck..............lyle

I got an "ID/OD" inspection from a local service station, then took title, license application, insurance card and personal property tax receipt to DMV license office for plates. Also have to go to Highway Patrol "Troop C" to get their safety inspection. Lotta hoops, but . . . whadda ya gonna do???

I got mine titled as an assembled vehicle 2016 Roadster also here in Texas. About 2" of paperwork including a Master mechanic inspection sheet. That, they said, was good for as long as I owned the vehicle. It got tested a year later and I had to educate the registration people and they called Austin DOT and they verified it. No inspection!
