Driveshaft?

Checked with the only place around here that builds driveshafts. Gonna be like 46-48" long, 700R4 on one end, my old late 70's jag IRS on the other end. Using the ends off my old short driveshaft, 400 bucks! I just about fell over. Gonna look online when I have more time, but thought I would throw this out to you folks.

Whadya think? Know of anyplace less expensive? Geez, my old one cost 80 bucks and they furnished the ends!

Why is your driveshaft so long? Most T-buckets require a rather short one, somewhere between 18 - 24 inches . . .

Anyway, the place I used, Driveshafts Unlimited in Arnold, MO, charged me $165.48 for mine (about 18" long as I recall) which included both ends and balancing. Most of that was labor.

I stretched the chassis for a tub body Bill. When I have the 700R4 end in the tranny, from the flat plate that attaches to the jag, it's 17 and 1/2 more inches to the rear end. If I measure from the tail end of the splined shaft of the 700R4 to the flat plate of the jag that the driveshaft attaches to, it is 42 and 3/4 (maybe 13/16) inches long.

No other machine shops around that does this work? The guy that builds and balances mine can do it for less than $200.00 and him furnishing the u-joints and me the ends.

Frank, you can drag and drop a photo right into the post window (where you type your post). Find the photo file you want in your directory, left click and hold the file name, drag it into the post window and drop it. It will automatically upload into your post. It has to be under 2 Megs in file size, however. You can resize a photo in MS Paint or any photo editing app if necessary.

you can buy a speedway drive shaft a little longer than you need and put your ends on it, and if straight, won't need balancing.

How about building your own? I stumbled across this outfit when I was looking into getting a shaft with u-joints that I could readily find anywhere, should I need to. Ended up building my own, and it didn't need balancing at all, but it was a shorty.
Don't see why you couldn't weld one up yourself, then pay to have it balanced.

You could also try Denny's, as they sell shaft tubing, too. You just need to ensure that the yolks you get match up to the tubing you order.
