Hurst ProMatic or Mr Gasket ratchet shifters

Needing some assistance, I am replacing my old shifter and am in hopes someone out there has experience with the old one I am replacing. My problem is this, the old shifter has more wires than I expected when I opened it up. The second issue is the wires go under the carpet which is glued down very thoroughly and I will destroy the carpet if I try to pull it up. I am so far not able to trace the wires to see where everything is going.

SO here is what I think would help, does anyone have the above shifter in your car and the accompanying installation manual? If no manual can you easily follow the wires by the color and see where they are going? In addition do you have backup lights on your car. Mine does not and so I don't know if the extra wires were for back up lights. The bottom line with mine is the wires seem to all be wired to something and that couldn't be backup lights.

To confirm the shifter ID, mine is the Mr Gasket ratchet type, I don't know a model name or number. As an alternate the Hurst old style ProMatic ratchet type, not sure the old one is called a Promatic, but it might be It appears to be the same as the Mr Gasket with the exception of the white wire on the Hurst is blue on the Mr Gasket. The new shifter is called Hurst ProMatic 2 so maybe the old one was called simply the ProMatic, I just am guessing at that ???

Thanks for any help or thoughts or maybe you know a friend with this shifter in their car, grasping at straws for the moment.

Seems as if you have a neutral start switch and a starter interrupt switch and the backup light switch is being used for the starter interrupt switch. Neutral switch should go to tranny and interrupt switch to stater.
Just guessing though.

It's a shame you can't find any numbers on the shifter to identify it, this would be much easier.

Hi Rick, I have talked with Holly and apparently when they bought Hurst ( according to a 3rd party source ) they shortly there after fired all of the Hurst people and now no one left there knows anything about any older Hurst stuff at all. I have even contacted sellers on ebay who were selling old Mr Gasket and Hurst shifters to see if they had a manual and no one did. So as of now I have bought a tone generator and probe and plan to start chasing wires soon, wish me luck
I appreciate your input and feel it will be the best option I have so moving on we will go.

Hey sorry for the delay, but are getting ready to be heavily distracted for a while and and will have to put this on the back burner till we get back ..... anyway it is 5 wires going to the car and a couple of them are also jumpering around within the shifter, and electrical diagnostics is no where near my strong suite

I'm sure this will get solved eventually, thanks to all who have helped.
