Tires question

I run big & littles like a lot of you guys, and need to replace my bias belted tires, figured I'd go with radials. Looks like MT Sportsman S/R's are the way to go? Jegs has 24 X 5's for the front for $171 each(can I get them on my 3.5" wheels?), and 31 X 18's for $372 back to replace my 18.5's on the back. Does this make sense? Are there other alternatives that would work, and/or be better?

Also, I would like to get new rear wheels to match my Weld Racing front ones. I need to check backspacing, but that looks like $275 each for Weld Racing Draglites to match my front ones.

I should be able to get tires within a few months, as it needs to wait on cash. Then maybe next would be those new rear wheels. In the meantime there's plenty of other stuff to do. I'm swapping out the bench seat for some small buckets I took out of an Int'l Scout years ago. That's a project I'll start working on soon as I finish installing laminate floors in the house. Busy dude.

Frank, I'm really partial to the Hoosier Pro Streets. I happened to get caught in a pretty heavy rain at the 2006 Nats in Mountain Home (my first outing with the just completed T), and i was really impressed how well the Hoosiers stuck. Even with the 18.50 wide tires, the T really stuck when cornering on the wet pavement. I prefer the look of the Hoosiers over the MTs, as well.

Here is a shot of M/T's front and rear. On the M/T website they give rim width recommendations for all of their tire sizes. Front tires have less than 50 miles, rear tires have about 15,000 miles. If you go with M/T on the fronts be sure to use a metal valve stem. They have a large bead that will push into a rubber valve stem and tear it, causing a leak.

I know they give rim width recommendations, but I want to do this in a way that doesn't require me to buy new front wheels too! Could I squeeze a 5" wide tire on a 3.5" wide wheel? Seems to me the bias ones I got are 5" and I squeezed them on. I need to take a look.

I ran stainless valves now, and would with new stuff too.

Well by golly, I plumb missed that. Thanks Bob, I feel better already!

Won't be long now I can get at the old hot rod and start working on her. Got a good friend who owns a garage gonna come down sometime before month's end, see if we can get her started and running. If we can, and I don't need a new carb (or motor!), we're gonna be off and runnin.

Hope y'all enjoy yer day. I just pulled a bunch of carpet and am pulling foam pad staples. Trust me, it ain't presto zippo. Gonna try and finish up new floors this weekend. Busy filler.
