Removable dash?

There is absolutely no way I can crawl under the dash to do wiring anymore. It's not a matter of size, I was much bigger when I built the T. It's a matter of bad back, knees and shoulders. So, what good advice here is there about doing a removable dash? What, just carefully cut around the surround, remove dash? Re-install fiberglass or do wood? Hinge or secure with screws or bolts?

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Instead of each gauge, switch, and ignition on the dash, how about a drop in panel with all on it, and terminal and fuse block in a easy to reach position.

That is exactly what I would like to do Bob. I was thinking wood, but I love the aluminum look. What is that, 1/4" stuff? How does it attach and detach?

frank, i did pretty much the same as bob.. but i used wood.. i cut off the lower part so the panel would be larger and fasten it with 2 bolts and cap nuts, one ea side.. easy to remove and work on.. gotta see if i have a pic..

Two screws, if you look close one is about 1/2 way from the first gauge to the edge.

Below the dash is a spring loaded door for the glove compartment.

Gee Bob, what "first" gauge? Volts? RPM? Temp? I'll be darned if I can see even one screw! Glovebox is a neat idea, but I don't think I'm doing one.

Just got back from dropping a couple Ben Franklins on tiger hair to wood the body for doors, and metal to stretch the frame. About all I got done this morning other than that was got one caliper off. Got a lot more to go, but it's a honey do day mostly, so maybe early tomorrow morning I can get back at the T.

First gauge far left is fuel, then volts, speedo, tach, water temp and far right oil pressure. 1/4" aluminum and look closely you will see a counter sink (at that viewing angle you will not see the hole) half way from the the left edge to the fuel gauge.

Glove compartment very handy, spring hinged at the bottom, so it opens by pulling on the top. When fully opened the spring no longer sees an angle and it stays open till you lift it up a little and if you let go it slams shut.

And to the left of it outside of the picture is the fuel gauge. Six gauges total, speedo and tach flanked by two gauges on each side along with headlight switch, ignition switch, high beam indicator, and cigarette lighter.

Left arrow is the receiving hole, right arrow is the hole in the dash panel...
