How to figure back space?

So with tires 10 and 1/2 inches wide, that will add about 1 and 1/4 inch to each side, or 2 and 1/2 altogether.

This was my old hot rod with 15 X 15 wheels. I'm almost sure they were 5.5 inch back space, but I sold them a long time ago, so no clue.

Yes, when you add tire cross section. You could also consider using 5.0" BS which provides a little more rim/tire clearance at the bottom plus allows a bit more for the wheels to swing inward at the top as the suspension compresses.

One inch of clearance would be enough, but more would be better.

Other than special made wheels, back spacing is almost a set in stone choice in wheel selection.
