How much stall coverter to go with..

I am building my first t bucket and going with a turbo 350 transmission. My engine will be a 355 with 12:1 compression tunnel ram with either two Holley 450's or two edelbrock 500 cfm a solid cam with gross valve lift of .550 intake and .559 exhaust and a rear gear of 3:70. As light as these cars are and my engine I really don't know what type of stall to go with. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated to help this newbie out.

If anyone has a suggestion on a tunnel ram and carb set up out there that is pretty close to turn key that would be great information also as I am trying to decide which way to go.

Companies like B&M will tell you exactly what you need if you give them the info you just posted re: engine, cam, compression, rear-gear, etc. My guess would be somewhere around a 3,000 RPM stall would be appropriate, but that's just a guess. Good luck!!!

I agree with Spanky that 3,000 stall will be what you want. That's what I have and I'm really pleased with it. My motor idles between 800 and 900 due to a pretty rumpity cam, and I can hold the car at stop lights with just light brake pedal pressure. On moderately aggressive "leaves" the motor spins right up into the high 2,000s, gets on the cam and away we go!!!

Jgard, you might want to check out this "tunnel ram." One of our members (can't remember who now... CRS!) reported he had swapped out his "real" tunnel ram for one of these and was really pleased with it. Supposedly cured the off-idle bog and the uneven fuel distribution to cylinders. We just installed this tunnel ram setup on a new 383 Stroker motor and it was absolutely turn key. Best tunnel setup I have seen. Milt Atkinson is running it and this is why we used it for our last build.

That is exactly what I was hoping for. In a tunnel ram set up. Heard too many horror stories of warehouse tunnel Rams and carbs off the shelf not being able to drive them on the street. Thanks so much for the feedback. I am putting power brakes on mine.

Have any of you guys used the vacuum canister since it's not desired to drill and tap into that intake to get vacuum for the power brakes?

Just curious as to why you are running power brakes?? Drum or disc

Running drums on the back discs on front. I wasn't for sure to run with or without but I went ahead and have purchased the power break booster with master cylinder and have got it plumbed in with it. Figured when I got older it might be easier to push on the brakes.

Where is it mounted?? If you order the tunnel ram set up and tell them about your brake booster, he will possibly drill and tap a hole, where you need it. They are great to work with!!
