Ideas for 2013 NATS

Post by Bob Lemke »

Time to bounce some ideas. I hope there will be a Loop the Lake Cruise. Here are a couple of ideas for stops along the way.

First, the overview, Carson City and Lake Tahoe.

Stop #1 Cave Rock, right after the tunnel

Stop #2 Emerald Bay

Stop #3 Fanny Bridge, Tahoe City

Stop #4 Lunch at the Marina, Tahoe City

Stop #5 TV show Bonanza's Ponderosa Ranch

Final stop before climbing the summit and return to Carson City, Sand Harbor

These are just ideas thrown out there. Add to, modify, suggest, or anything else.

The original owner sold it and in September 2004 David Duffield, the new owner, closed the Ponderosa "indefinitely". :(

Made a note of those stops for my next trip to Tahoe. Last years trip around the lake was the high point of the entire time.

Steve,

Sounds like a good idea. As to the restaurant choice, there is quite a choice, but it would be memorable if it had a lake view, and there still is a large choice on a lake view basis.

Yes it's about 30 to 45 min from Carson to Reno, 15 to 20 min to VC, and 20 to 30 min to Lake Tahoe

I was wondering if there is a military base nearby that we could cruise to and have a car show for the troops, possibly offer rides???

or an orphanage?

or an ARC center?

Something like this should be an annual activity!

Thoughts?

Mark, the nearest base I know of is the Naval Air Station in Fallon. It's about an hour east of Carson City. It happens to be the home base for Top Gun, which used to be in Miramar in the San Diego area. Those guys would go nuts seeing 100 Ts show up!! I'll see what I can find out...

Wouldn't that be cool to park amongst some F18 Hornets?
That would be a nice cap to the T bucket Nationals. :D
