Transmission Cooler Installation

Post by Indycars »

When I had the trans temperature sensor in the pan, then the trans temp was
only 170°F. But then I moved it to the trans cooler output line and the temp
went to 220°F, therefore it was decided that I needed a trans cooler. At this
time all I had was a steel line with about 3 loops in it and then back into the
trans input line.

Below you can see the AN fittings that I used. I specifically used this type of
fitting since you can never tell where the NPT will tighten down. These swivel
fittings can be tightened and then the AN portion can be pointed in any direction,
making the aluminum tubing much easier to connect. It could be nearly impossible
to connect if the NPT thread tightened down 180° out.

My frame is 1/8 inch wall thickness, but it still holds enough thread to hold the
cooler in position.

To the untrained eye, the cooler is barely visible from the passenger side of
the car.

.
Below is a much better picture of the actual AN fitting. You can now see
how it might swivel to any angle.

Those AN fittings are very cool. Where did you get them?
