In my understanding, radius rods are a more generic term for the locating rods that attach the axle to the frame on each side. Hairpins are a type of radius rod, resembling the item worn by the ladies to keep their hair in place. Here is a page from a Speedway catalog that illustrates the point:

Other than in a woman's hair, "Hairpins" is just an old school term for "radius rods" I believe
