Oil Filters - Wix vs Royal Purple

Post by Indycars »

Before I do anything, I like to let the filter drain for several days. It's just easier and not nearly as messy.

I don't know how anyone else does the cutting open part, but I like to clamp the cutter in the vise. Then spin the filter with both hands.

Notice how Royal Purple (RP) puts a silicone seal verses Wix's metal-to-metal seal. The spring at the bottom is different, but as long as it does not fail and I don't see there being any performance difference.

The RP filter does cost more, $4.25 more than the Wix.

The one comment I've had is about the number pleats in the Wix filter being much higher. Well that maybe true, but the media compositions has an important part to play in the overall performance of the oil filter.

Sorry .... I'm trying to play both sides of the coin, it' up to you to make the best decision.

Who actually makes the Royal Purple filter? I can bet you it's not Royal Purple.

You, Sir, are a wealth of information. So is the Mobile One manufactured with same filter media?
