Association to the Alliance...a little bit of FREE history

When I typed this out last night, I didn’t really think it through.

The really neat things about this “stuff”, you will discover who was responsible for the founding of the NTBA… the Association. In some respect you will discover the WHY and WHEREFORE it became the ALLIANCE.

You will also learn how “PHRED” came about. Who is PHRED??? Have you not seen pink phlamingos adorned on some buckets at the Nationals? PHRED goes back to 1998 and some of us diehards carried on the tradition. Not many of us left, yet some of the youngsters are keeping him alive, although they do so because of the bird, they have no clue as to why.

At some point in time, I will be selling off my pink flamingo goodies, but I’m not giving them away. They’ve been around for quite some time.

I have read through many of newsletters and emails and wonder what happened to the many members we once had. I did recognize many members who have passed, but then there are the members who never “re-upped”. Dunno where they went or what happened. So in a way it’s actually fun reading the newsletter and emails that transpired over the years. Some of the early emails are BS brought to you by a certain fella and his lady friend. I KNOW the entire story, as do a couple other guys. This is all I am saying.

I have among my "stuff" newsletters and articles stemming from the beginning of the NTBA, know back then as The National T-Bucket Association and up to when it became the Alliance. Wondering if anyone out here in la la land might be interested in all of this? Otherwise it's going to get thrown in PUFF TWO.

There are many names involved and mentioned in these articles. Folks who are no longer with us, either due to death or just plain resigned from the organization. There are lots of photos of various t-buckets, being built or sold etc. Lots of info on who is in the Hall of Fame and how and why they were nominated. Just lots of history. WE HAVE A WEINER!!!!! Sorry folks you lost out on a bit of history and I WAS going to throw in ALL MY NEW/UNWORN t-shirts from all the past NTBA functions going all the way back to 1999!!! Yep, not doing it anymore.

Thinking seriously of having them framed and auctioned off. I have a large framed t-shirt from the 2002 Grapevine, Texas NTBA Nats with Norm Krabowski's autograph, one that I did NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR. It is framed and under glass.

Will also be putting up 6 or 8 National T-Bucket Association coffee mugs for sale. Cleaning out the "stuff". Next comes the NTBA stuff out of my shop.

Anyway, yes, someone very important has spoken and would like to have the papers regarding the history of the Association to the Alliance. It's not a lot, but gives the broad view of what occurred.

It would be cool if someone could distill all this stuff into a cogent history of the NTBA, complete with pictures, quotes etc. Just sayin . . .

I agree 100% to keep the historygoing. I had the privilege going to West Branson and pick up the raffle t and books. If you look at the 501c tax exempt letter signed from a well known federal butt head, she approved the tax exempt status with my home address at the top page.Punkun, can you remember all that went. I think Russ Gore, Chris Seper, you, me, and one more went to get not only the car,books but also car products.

I remember people saying it will not last 5 years. Well folks , that 5 year has past working on the next20. The cars are the attraction, but the people that make it work.

That little red roadster with the trailer behind it made it all the way from Greenleaf, Wisconsin to Branson and back. Believe it or not, Lisa rode with me round trip. Surprised the hell out of me when shortly after getting the bucket, she wouldn't ride into De Pere 8 miles away to go get an ice cream, but she had no issues going 1800 miles round trip! On trip back we drove in the rain, but put the top up and side curtains snapped on. What a trooper!! I recall her question when we got back to beautiful downtown Greenleaf, "can you put a door in this bucket? We need a door, climbing over the side is getting real old." The other comment Lisa made on Friday evening when we all went to Steak and Shake in Branson....upon seeing all the other buckets, she told me, "your car is boring!" I asked what she meant by that comment? "NOT ENOUGH CHROME."

And now you know the rest of the story as to how and why the LGSM morphed into what it is today.
