Alternator

I just replaced my alternator and it is only charging 11 volts. The reason I replaced it was the old one was doing the same.
The belt is good with good tension. I am using a 100amp 1 wire alt. I put a ground strap on from the alt to the block since I could not find one on the engine. The battery is in the rear of the car. After checking the output at the back of the alt on the positive post it gave me the same as checking it at the battery.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you

Have alternator tested at AA or Autozone. Run ground wire (2-4 gauge) from battery to starter bolt.

Grounding through frame is not advisable.

If this fails, hit it with a bah.

After running a new ground wire and you are still show 11 volts, you have discharge and the alternator may have a bad diode. I had that happen with alternators I bought at swap meet that somebody put a chrome case on it and said it was rebuild. Any of the big auto part store should be able to test it off the car.

It's probably too late for this question, but when you start your car, do you rev up the engine to around 3000 rpm? Many one wire alternators don't start charging until they've been revved up. Once they start charging, they will keep charging until the engine is turned off.
