I remember a story about back in the day. The thought was spin the tires the full run was the hot set up. Then someone didn't and beat the other guy and the guy who got beat said the guy who didn't spin his tires cheated by not spinning. Not sure that's a true story, but is what I've heard.

With some of the personalities involved in the early days of drag racing, that story is believable. These two dragsters illustrate the common build layout for those early machines, with the driver straddling the differential.

Yes, after many engines blowing up, spraying hot oil, water, along with other parts, ( transmissions, rear ends) eventually they figured out a rear engine was much safer.

Messed that DODGE Up pretty bad..........Don did ok after he got out............
