Where could I find a Jag hub?

I think that's what this thing is called, but maybe not. It's out of a 70 XJ sedan, but when I google "1970 jag xj hub", it just looks like a bearing carrier. What is it called, and where the heck would I find one? Not good!

Hey Frank,

You might try calling Milt Atkinson (Prez. of the North Texas Chapter). I was talking to him at Weelstang's Artesia meet & he mentioned that he'd found a good Jag place in Dallas. They completely rebuilt his center section. I don't know if they would have extra hubs for sale, but it's worth a try. Milt is listed in the Bucket Buddies. It's a long story John, but as you know, I've been tearing the hot rod apart for a major rebuild. Got one half the jag off, then night before last went to work on the other side. I always end up having to drive these fulcrum shafts out, and have a steel 3/8 rod I do it with. Because I have to sit to do this stuff (because of my back), I was sitting on the floor pounding from the back to pop the 5/8" fulcrum shaft, and couldn't see what was happening on the other end. Apparently there is enough room once inside the pivot for the 3/8 rod to wedge itself tight up against the pivot shaft before you know anything is wrong. I was hammering away figuring it was just being tough, till I moved enough to see the other side and could tell it wasn't moving. Got the 3/8" steel rod stuck inside the fulcrum of the jag hub, now can't budge either.



So last night I was cleaning the hub up figuring tonight I would get the heat wrench on it and with a 5# slide hammer, get the shaft out. That's when I discoverd the break. I keep a very clean shop and know I didn't do this is the current tear down, so I really don't know how long it's been like that. May still try the heat wrench thing, but if it doesn't work right away, guess I can just break it off. Kinda discouraging. More $. Funny to think I bought this whole IRS in a cage for 100 bucks 15 years ago. Wonder what one new hub carrier will run me?

Gee, thanks Ron! I have Welch's and Terry's jag catalogs and neither of them have the part number for the upright. Now all I need to do is find one. Problem with most junkyards is I can't call and say I need a right hand hub and carrier from any XJS or XJ6 from 1968-1987. (They lose patience if ya can't repeat the specific year, make, model, trim level, # of doors, transmission type, engine size, etc.) Any of those years should fit what I have, at least according to this review in the April 1995 issue of Street Rodder Magazine:

Boy oh boy George, that looks just right! Tell ya what, I'll send you an email or PM or whatever with my address, you tell me what the shipping will be, and I'll get a check off to you. I've got $ in the bank for this rebuild, I add to it a bit every month, but that would sure be in my budget!

I think of you often George, mostly every time I install or remove the keg from the stake rack. Those stainless bands you made for me have seen plenty of miles, and are just the cat's meow - functional and just pretty. Besides offering me this hub, it's just good to hear from you!
