Trailer Tire blow outs ???

Get the biggest tire that will fit and the biggest ply they have. The bigger tire will make less revolutions per mile, helping to keep down heat. There is not much difference in the tire prices.

I agree with Ron, in this case bigger is better and get the higherst ply that you can. I was gonig through at least one tire a year and then I went to 10 ply with the heaviest rating I could get and so far two years no tire issues. The other thing we were told was to keep the pressuee on the high side with the highway speeds we run so we run 5 lbs over recommended cold pressure and so far so good. My trailer with two cars is about 10,000 lbs.

I cannot stress enough the importance of y'all reading the article in the June issue of "Trailer Life." EVERYTHING you need/want to know about tires for your trailers be it toy trailers or RV trailers is written out for you. I WOULD type out the entire section regarding "Blow Up or Blow Out" but it would be "word for word" out of the magazine and this is illegal...so either go online to obtain this VERY informative reading or buy the magazine...YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY!

By the way, I left out three other items they touch on here when I discussed this magazine earlier...they also discuss "Alignment" , "Balance" , and "Read The Manufacturers Date."

The ENTIRE featured article is aptly titled: "Rolling Along Safely."


When in doubt about tires...another source is to select any given tire and call that companies CUSTOMER SERVICE or TECHNICIAN SERVICE and you WILL receive everything your pee pickin' little mind has been wondering about.

Well we've hauled many things from houses to buckets. Buy ONLY trailer tires the biggest that will fit under unit with the MOST plys. Sams has 10ply trailer tires in 15 & 16 inch and are not bad priced, there are many walmarts and sams.

Well thanks to all who chimed in on the topic. I have pulled the trigger on a full set on Maxxis tires. I stayed with the same size as the old Carlisle but stepped up to a D load range. Looks like the result is 8,600 pounds of tire under a 7,000 pound trailer that weighs a little over 5,000 with the car loaned to travel. if I get 10 years out of this setup I'll be ready to retire or something I think,

I looked for a while on the web about reviews on the Maxxis and everything I found was positive, unlike every other brand I looked at.

I agree Mark, I to was looking for American made, but didn't find any. From what I could find which wasn't much, even the Goodyear's were made in China.

I'll cross my fingers that they hold up.
