WOO-HOO! Doing a bit of I-net research, and discovered I have one out in the driveway, attached to a now-dead '95 Dakota. That's one more thing that'll be coming off before it gets hauled away.

Well, shucks.....He doesn't want to see my 200K+, dead rustbucket of a work pickup, only it's usable pieces. I'm disappointed, now.

Busy tonight, I'll see what I can do about pulling it tomorrow and getting a couple shots posted. They won't be as shiny as the ones Jim posted, though.

I'm using a Nippondenso alternator off of an early 90's Geo Metro (Suzuki Swift). It's the same size as the mini alternators that the speed shops sell. 55 amps if I remember correctly. The only downside is that it comes with a serpentine type pulley. My local alternator shop had a v-groove pulley that fit fine. That gives me an alternator that I can get at pretty much any parts house (maybe overnight). I would just need to swap my pulley.

Do these fit the same GM brackets? How much modification required? Fifty-five amps is OK for a basic T, but if you add much else (say, for example, an electric water pump) and you could come up short.

Mike - I don't know, but I can check. I fabbed the mounting bracket just for this alternator. It'll be Tuesday though, I have to go to work tomorrow.

My car has an electric fuel pump and an MSD ignition, but no other real loads other than lights (mech fan). I also have an air suspension compressor, but that rarely kicks on (no storage tank). Voltage runs 14.2 during the day and drops to about 14 at night.

OK I haven't got around to actually measuring the Geo Metro Denso alternator (I have a lot of irons in the fire right now ), but I don't think it will fit standard GM alternator mounts without modification.

The lower bolt (long one that normally screws into the head on a SBC) is about 5/16" on the Denso unit. It's more than likely metric. The GM alternators normally have 3/8" bolts (some truck units have 7/16"). Not an insurmountable problem, but I also believe the spacing on the lower ears is different.

I found the Geo alternator on the shelf at a local salvage yard. I liked the small size and fabbed the mounts to fit it.
