Friday, February 28, 2003 Rockford, Ill. – Services for G. Lawrence “Larry” Forman, 60, Rockford, Ill., will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Unitarian Universalist Church in Rockford. Mr. Forman died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at Swedish American Hospital of gastric cancer. He was born Nov. 13, 1942, in Hartford, Conn., the son of George and Ruth Forman. He graduated from Lawrence (Kan.) High School and completed bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate programs in zoology and mammalogy at Kansas University. Mr. Forman was chairman of the biology department at Rockford College, where he had been a professor for 34 years, at the time of his death. He was a member of American Society of Mammalogists, North American Bat Research Society and Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. He served on the board of Severson Dells Nature Preserve in northern Illinois for 20 years and also was involved with Burpee Natural History Museum of Rockford. He was an authority on bat systematics and was a pioneer in the technique of using soft anatomy in understanding group relationships in bats. He was also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Badgers Radio Control Model Boat Racing Club and Crazy T’s T-bucket Club of Northern Illinois. He married Jerelyn Grusy on May 25, 2002. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Graham, Pasadena, Calif., and Barton, Berkeley, Calif.; a daughter, Jennifer Forman, Naperville, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Regan Grusy, New York City, and Jana Grusy, Rockford; his parents, Lawrence, Kan.; a brother, John, Newcastle, Calif.; a sister, Jane Cigard, Lenexa, Kan.; and a granddaughter. The family suggests memorials to a scholarship fund in honor of Mr. Forman, sent in care of Fitzgerald & Associates Funeral Home, 1860 Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108.
